Sermon Notes:
HEBREWS 4:14-16 NIV
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.
16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Jesus is fully God and fully man.
JESUS IS FULLY MAN
HEBREWS 2:14,17 NIV
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil—
17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
LUKE 2:52 NIV
52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
JOHN 11:35 NIV
35 Jesus wept.
JOHN 4:6 NIV
6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
While Jesus was on earth, he made a choice to limit himself.
PHILIPPIANS 2:6-8 THE MESSAGE
6 He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what.
7 Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human!
8 Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. … Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death--and the worst kind of death at that: a crucifixion.
1. JESUS WAS OUR REPRESENTATIVE
GALATIANS 4:4-5 NIV
4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 NIV
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2. JESUS HAD TO SHED BLOOD FOR OUR SINS.
HEBREWS 9:22 NIV
22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
HEBREWS 10:11-12 ESV
11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God
3. JESUS WANTS US TO KNOW THE LOVE OF GOD.
HEBREWS 4:15 NIV
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.
ROMANS 5:8 NIV
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
JOHN 11:35 NIV
35 Jesus wept.
JOHN 11:33 NIV
33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
To trust God’s actions, we have to be certain of God’s love.
Relationships are not about control; it’s about a love commitment.
When we study Jesus, it’s really a study of a relationship at it’s core.
PHILIPPIANS 3:8 NIV
8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
Everything else is worthless in comparison to knowing Christ.
REVELATIONS 3:20 NIV
20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
