God’s ownership of everything reminds us that our worth is not found in what we have but in our relationship with him.

Sermon Notes:

1 CHRONICLES 29:10-16 NIV

10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise be to you, O LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15 We are aliens and strangers in your sight, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. 16 O LORD our God, as for all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name, it comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you.

Everyone makes financial decisions.

The criteria that you base your financial decisions says a lot about how much hold money has on you.

1 CHRONICLES 29:9 NIV

9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

To honor his holy name

PROVERBS 3:9 NIV

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;

HEART

Honoring God begins with our hearts.

MATTHEW 6:24 NIV

24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

God isn’t really asking for your wealth, he asks for your heart. And if he has your heart, he has everything else.

God’s ownership of everything reminds us that our worth is not found in what we have but in our relationship with him.

HEAD

To honor God with our wealth, we must change our view of ownership.

We honor God not with a percentage or a part of what we have. We are to honor God with all of it.

“Stewardship is the practice of treating everything we have as if it belongs to God, because it does.”

Charles R. Swindoll

HANDS

To honor God with our wealth is to open our hands.

MATTHEW 6:33 NIV

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

“God’s ownership of all things means that He has the right to ask for anything at any time.”

John MacArthur

Living with open hands enables us to embrace God’s blessings with gratitude and extend generosity to others.

Living with open hands is to live as if everything is a gift because it is.

If you think it’s yours, chances are you don’t own it. It owns you.

Let’s remember that we don’t belong here.

1 CHRONICLES 29:15 NIV

15 We are aliens and strangers in your sight, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.

1 CORINTHIANS 4:7 NIV

7 For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

1 CORINTHIANS 10:31 NIV

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
